Request for someone who can set up a grant By Selma Weems Is there anyone who knows how to write a grant? I am on the board of the Polio Society, which is a Non-Profit organization. Our mission is to disseminate information to Polio survivers to aid them in locat-ing medical personnel and services in their area who are familiar with the problems specific to Polio pa-tients. This includes, but is not limited to, new findings related to Post Polio Syn-drome (PPS). In case you are not familiar with PPS, in-dividuals who may have led full lives after the initial onset of Polio and its paralysis, find themselves with additional paralysis/weakness, and may no longer be able to do the same things the same way, or maybe not at all. This is called PPS. In addition, most of us use muscles to make up for muscles we do not have, which means our muscles become overworked and weak. We provide support and help by means of an information bulletin giving articles that individuals, medical per-sonnel, etc., have written to facilitate survivors in having the best life they can in their day-to-day living. In addition, we talk to survivors who have questions and try to help them by giving our experiences and how we handled them. Whereby this only costs for the phone call, without the information bul-letin survivors don't even know who to call, or worse yet, think they are alone. We know everyone has strug-gles in their life, we just try to make them less stressful. With grant money, we could do so much more. This is why we are looking for someone who knows about grants. We don't bring in enough funds to do this most needed work for the people. We get small donations from survivors, but as you know, everything costs so much when you have special needs, so the funds don't cover the costs. If you know someone who has written grants, or if you have written a grant yourself for a non-profit organization, and can donate some time to show someone how to do it, please con-tact Selma Weems at (301)421-9425, or con-tact the Polio Society at 4200 Wisconsin Ave., Washington, DC. Thanks for your help, Selma Jerusalem cross This complex cross, also called the Crusader’s Cross or Fivefold Cross, has several interpretations. The main cross is composed of 4 tau T crosses representing the Old Testament law. The 4 small Greek crosses symbolize the fulfillment of the law in the gospel. The 5 crosses together represent the church’s mission: to spread the gospel to the 4 corners of the earth. They’re also said to symbolize Christ’s 5 wounds (hands feet and side).

FIVE STARS THEMES
By Pastor Jeff
We are working on becoming even more
of a five STARS church than before. The five
stars we are all working on are the five dimen-
sions of the church from the book of Acts, the
story of the church which was started by Je-
sus’ disciples. We are becoming that kind of
church.
The five stars are Serving, Training, Ador-
ing, Relating, and Sharing. They are equiva-
lent to Missions, Education, Worship, Fellow-
ship and Evangelism in more recognizable
words. We want our church to be really out-
standing in each of these areas. We are going
to try to highlight each one, on a different
month.
August is for Sharing; we have been urg-
ing people to invite their friends, espe-
cially during the summer and for
our beginning fall programs. Morn-
ing Star camp is an excellent way to
invite our neighbors to our church.
September is for Training. Educa-
tion and the beginning of the new
phase of Sunday School, and Bible
Studies reminds us we are all grow-
ing in our faith and can use the training for
how to live a faithful life.
October is for Serving. Missions
and attention to others in need is an
emphasis we see with World Wide
Communion Sunday and other
ways we think about touching the lives of oth-
ers.
November is for Relating. We are
reminded with All Saints, and
Thanksgiving how much having one
another in our lives is so important.
December is for Adoring. Jesus is
coming, we adore the Christ
Child, we are inspired, we are
blessed with great music and the
story of our faith which began with Jesus
coming to us.

Thanks!
I want to thank everyone for the cards, vis-
its and telephone calls after my broken hip.
The physical therapy works me hard two days
a week, but I am progressing well and hope to
see everyone soon.
Also thanks to everyone who attended my
birthday party on such short notice.  Sorry that
the thank-you notes are
so far overdue.  That in
no way diminishes the
appreciation I feel for
everything.  I was very
surprised and had a
wonderful time and
hope you did too.
