Request for someone who
can set up a grant
By Selma Weems
Is there anyone who knows how
to write a grant?
I am on the board
of the Polio Society, which is a Non-
Profit organization.
Our mission is
to disseminate information to Polio
survivers to
aid them in locat-
ing medical personnel and services in
their area who are familiar with the
problems specific to Polio pa-
tients. This includes, but is not limited
to,
new findings related to Post Polio Syn-
drome (PPS).
In case you are not familiar with PPS, in-
dividuals who may have led full lives after the
initial onset of Polio and its paralysis,
find
themselves with
additional paralysis/
weakness, and may no longer be able to do the
same things the same way, or maybe not at
all. This is called PPS. In addition, most of
us use muscles to make up for muscles we do
not have, which means
our muscles become
overworked and weak.
We provide support
and help by means of
an information bulletin
giving articles that individuals, medical per-
sonnel, etc., have written to facilitate survivors
in having the best life they can in their day-to-
day living. In addition, we talk to survivors
who have questions and try to help them by
giving our experiences and how we handled
them.
Whereby this only costs for the
phone call, without the information bul-
letin survivors don't even know who to
call, or worse yet, think they are
alone.
We know everyone has strug-
gles in their life, we just try to
make
them less stressful. With grant
money, we could do so much more.
This is why we are looking for someone
who knows about grants.
We
don't bring
in
enough funds to
do this
most needed
work
for the
people.
We get small donations from
survivors, but as you know, everything costs
so much when you have special needs, so the
funds don't cover the costs.
If you know
someone who has written grants, or if you
have written a grant yourself for a non-profit
organization, and can donate some time to
show someone how to do it,
please con-
tact
Selma Weems at (301)421-9425, or con-
tact the Polio Society at 4200 Wisconsin Ave.,
Washington, DC.
Thanks for your help,
Selma
Jerusalem cross
This complex cross, also called the Crusaders Cross or Fivefold Cross,
has several interpretations. The main cross is composed of 4 tau T crosses
representing the Old Testament law. The 4 small Greek crosses symbolize
the fulfillment of the law in the gospel. The 5 crosses together represent the
churchs mission: to spread the gospel to the 4 corners of the earth. Theyre
also said to symbolize Christs 5 wounds (hands feet and side).
